Investing in Transportation and Infrastructure
Our region suffers from demoralizing traffic congestion, pollution and commute times. It is clear that when it comes to addressing our abysmal transportation system, we cannot continue to kick the can down the road. We must be creative in our approach to moving people and goods around our community, rather than returning to the same old, same old bandaids.
I will advocate for investments in our state and local infrastructure, while also requiring adequate oversight to ensure the funding is used wisely. I will work with the VTA and regional governments to strengthen the management and maintenance of our transit systems, including BART, Caltrain, our buses and light rail, to better serve our region and stop interruptions in service or delays.
I support high speed rail, or other form of transit such as freeway bus lanes, from the Central Valley to Santa Clara County, and I support the electrification of Caltrain and investments in Diridon station as a key transportation hub.
As our region continues to grow, we must manage and invest in well-maintained roads, bridges, and public transportation systems. We need to continue to ensure our neighborhoods have high-quality and safe bike lanes and a network of walkable areas throughout the region. These investments are essential to our quality of life, and are an investment in our economic future.
- I worked on Measure A and B in 1996, which funded 19 key road improvements.
- I co-managed a traffic initiative that yielded $7.5 million to bring BART closer to San Jose.
