San Jose, CA – Today, Ann Ravel, candidate for State Senate District 15, announced the endorsement from State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson. State Senator Jackson serves as Chair of the State Senate Judiciary Committee and serves Senate District 19.
“Ann Ravel has dedicated her life to public service and has deep experience in local, state and federal government. She will fight for the people of California and hold special interests accountable. From taking on Big Oil, to holding banks accountable, and defending marriage equality, Ann has always been a fighter for justice and equality.” said Senator Jackson.
“Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson has been out in front fighting for equal pay and equal treatment in the workplace, and her bill on increasing female representation on corporate boards is important to me. A tireless advocate for the environment, she passed key legislation last year to stop Trump’s plan for new oil drilling off our coasts. I am proud to have her support,” said Ravel.
Ann Ravel has lived in District 15 for more than 50 years. She served as the Santa Clara County Counsel for 11 years, where she took on Big Tobacco; protected consumers and children from lead paint companies; challenged Prop 8 in court to defend marriage equality; created the Educational Rights Project to support at-risk foster youth; and created the first-in-the-country program that held Big Banks accountable and protected seniors from financial abuse.
As a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice, Ann held oil giant BP’s accountable after the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. She stood up to pharmaceutical companies who were breaking the law, taking advantage of the vulnerable, and selling drugs off-market.
As Governor Jerry Brown’s appointment to Chair the Fair Political Practices Commission, she led the first-in-the-nation fight against the Koch Brothers and dark and foreign money in politics. Her work – and her integrity – earned the attention of President Barack Obama who nominated her to the Federal Election Commission.
Ann was raised in Chile by a strong Brazilian mother and American father. In high school, her first jobs were in the fields of Salinas Valley and at a fruit orchard cannery in San Jose. She proudly calls State Senate District 15 home.
Ann and her husband Steve are residents of Los Gatos, and they are proud to have raised her three children in this district. Learn more about Ann’s campaign at: www.RavelforCA.com
