San Jose – Today, Ann Ravel announced endorsements from leading women’s political organizations in support of her campaign to be the next State Senator for California’s 15th District. California Women’s List and the California Democratic Legislative Women’s Caucus join a growing coalition of civic organizations, elected leaders and members of the community backing Ravel as she advances to the November 3 general election.
“I am honored to have the support of California Women’s List and the Women’s Caucus,” said Ravel. “My campaign is about putting power back in the hands of the people, and I’m proud to have earned the endorsement of groups who share that mission.”
“California Women’s List enthusiastically endorses Ann Ravel for State Senate District 15. As an appointee of the Obama administration, and throughout her entire career as a public interest attorney, Ann has fought to give all people a voice in government,” said Emily Zahn of the California Women’s List. “Ann understands the major issues of the day— from closing the wealth gap to creating new affordable housing, to advancing gender equality. We need a leader with Ann’s integrity and tenacity to represent us in Sacramento.”
“From arguing a historic Supreme Court case on women in the workplace to being a leader for campaign finance reform, Ann Ravel has committed her life to public service as an advocate for women and marginalized communities,” said Senator Connie Leyva, Chair of the California Democratic Legislative Women’s Caucus. “As a member of the California legislature, she’ll fight for the critical issues of equal pay, paid family leave, affordable childcare and women’s health.”
California Women’s List is a Political Action Committee dedicated to fundraising for, supporting and electing pro-choice, Democratic women to office in California. The Legislative Women’s Caucus represents and advocates on behalf of the diverse interests of women, children and families throughout California and seeks to increase participation and representation of women in state government.
These organizations join a broad coalition of organizations and distinguished leaders who announced their support of Ravel during the primary. Previous Ravel supporters include End Citizens United, Fund Her, Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis, State Controller Betty Yee, Congresswoman Jackie Speier, State Senators Connie Leyva and Hannah-Beth Jackson, Assemblywoman Rebecca Bauer-Kahan and Santa Clara County Supervisor Susan Ellenberg.
Ann Ravel has dedicated her life to public service and the fight for justice and equality. She served eleven years as Santa Clara County Counsel, during which time she took on big tobacco, protected families from lead paint, challenged Prop 8 in the California Supreme Court to defend marriage equality, and created innovative programs, including one that protected seniors from financial abuse. She was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to Chair the Fair Political Practices Commission, leading a first-in-the-nation fight against the Koch Brothers and dark money. Her hard work – and her integrity – earned the attention of President Barack Obama who nominated her to the Federal Election Commission.
