State Senate candidate raises more than $250,000
San Jose, CA – Ann Ravel, candidate for State Senate District 15, announced her best fundraising quarter total yet with more than $250,000 raised during the second quarter from over 800 contributions. Ravel’s fundraising this quarter exceeds her previous quarter high by more than $50,000.
“I am so proud of the strong momentum this campaign is building based on our growing grassroots base,” said Ravel. “My campaign is all about returning power to the people so that government works better for us – not just the special interests. Our strong performance since the March primary shows that the people are rallying behind this message and will carry us to victory in November.”
In addition to her strong grassroots fundraising numbers, Ravel is building a growing coalition of support from distinguished leaders and organizations. Since California’s March primary, Ravel has announced endorsements from Congresswoman Katie Porter, ten incumbent members of the California legislature, local officials from across the district, EMILY’s List, Latinas Lead California and the Silicon Valley Organization. During the primary, The Mercury News called Ravel a “standout” candidate and said “Ravel is the one with the strength of character and respect to make a difference on the most important issues facing Californians.”
Ravel’s lifetime of public service has been defined by her fights to protect consumers and empower voters. Twice she was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve in his administration – first fighting on behalf of consumers at the Department of Justice, then working to make our elections fairer and more transparent as head of the Federal Elections Commission.
Ravel was also appointed by Governor Jerry Brown as Chair of California’s Fair Political Practices Commission, where she led a first-in-the-nation fight against the Koch Brothers and their illegal dark money network. As Santa Clara County Counsel, she took on tobacco companies and won support for better healthcare, won pioneering cases protecting consumers, was a champion of a precedent-setting case to safeguard children from lead paint, and was a fierce defender of equality for all.
